Class of 2024 COVID-19 Update
Parents and Volunteer Leaders:
The following message is from Dean Bruce Latta ’78, USNA Admissions:
"The United States Naval Academy Office of Admissions continues to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely. Based on what is currently known, the vast majority of young people recover without medical issues. In this context, there are no plans to deny admission to individuals who are diagnosed with COVID-19 and recover. If your healthcare provider recommends being tested, we strongly encourage you to follow their advice, without worry that your testing will impact your ability to accede as a midshipman."
Sincerely,
EB

2020 Packing Party
On Saturday, January 25, we hosted the Dark Ages Packing Party! We had such a great turnout, so much support for our Mids, an overflow of goodies, and even grandparents that came to pack, brought goodies, and had fourth grade students write Valentine's Day cards to our Mids. They were so sweet! It was a great time seeing everyone catching up and working hard for the love of our Mids from South Carolina!

2/C Parents' Weekend
Second Class Parents' Weekend was September 13-15, 2019. The day prior to the parents' weekend Mary Reardon, Kathy Booker, and Suzanne Hopper joined in on the Parent Club Officer Conference at USNA and were given many great ideas and tools to help with running the club. As of Friday, however, 2/C parents were free to join their midshipmen, go to class, eat at King Hall, and many other opportunities for sweet memories with their loved ones over the course of a few days! What a great and busy weekend for our South Carolina families!
Class of 2021 Signing Day
"After two years of training and development at the Academy, midshipmen are asked to make a 7-year commitment to the United States Navy: two more years at the Academy and five years minimum in the Navy or Marine Corps." Read a more detailed description about Signing Day from Academy Insider here: www.academyinsider.com/blog/2-for-7
Plebe Parent Weekend!
Plebe Parent Weekend was from August 9-11, 2019. Moms, dads, family, and friends were eager to get their long awaited hug from their Plebe on Friday! The weekend was filled with fun and food and smiles and sleep. We only wish it could last longer! What a special weekend to see our Midshipmen!
Plebe Summer Begins!
On June 27, 10 South Carolina Plebes checked in to USNA to begin their journey on the Yard. The night before, several families gathered at Gibson's Lodging outside Gate 1 for a fun social time--to get to know one another better and to ease the tension of the impending morning when they would begin the transformation from civilians to midshipmen. We are so proud of our SC 10 of 2023 and wish them strength, courage, endurance and joy (yes!) to complete the tough task at hand. Plebe Parents--Happy Waldo hunting and stay strong for your plebe! We hope first phone calls went well. It's almost 1/2 way now, and PPW is becoming a brighter light at the end of the tunnel. In fact, our Plebe/Detailer Care Package Packing Party is coming up Saturday July 20 in Columbia. More details and a sign up can be found here.

2019 Welcome Aboard Luncheon
We had a tremendous showing for our Welcome Aboard Luncheon on Saturday, June 8, with 9 of 13 plebe/NAPS families attending, along with many of our "seasoned veterans". LOTS of info was shared (see link below for a copy of the presentation), plus we had two special guests: LtCol Dave Smith (USMC, Retired), Class of 1973, 50-year "Link in the Chain" representative for the new Class of 2023. LtCol Smith reminded the Napsters and Plebes to keep their eyes on the prize. Newly commissioned 2nd Lt Gavin Roser, USMC, 2019 grad and SC Order of Merit Award recipient, encouraged parents and Plebes that the journey is well-worth it. Both men led a Q&A session with the Napsters/Plebes that could have gone on all day! Parents enjoyed making connections too.

Happy Fall, Y'all!
We hope the academic year is off to a good start for all!! Lots of news and info to share!
The Plebe Parent Weekend Ice Cream Meet-up was a nice way for our SC plebes to connect during Plebe Parent Weekend. Many thanks to Sherry Fadel for coordinating this celebration.
Our parent club was represented by three board members at the annual USNA Parent Club Conference, which took place over 2/C weekend in September. Networking with other state organizations is so fun and valuable! We are always looking for ideas and ways to improve our support of our USNA Mids, NAPS and member families as well.
The Mid Monthly Benefits began in September. Almost every month, the club provides surprises/encouragement and study break snacks by sending Starbucks cards, Moe's gift cards, cookies, etc. for all members. Additionally, the Birthday Club is in full swing, delivering cookies during each Mids’ birthday month.
Don't forget to access the USNA Alumni website photo program for photos of plebe summer, 2 for 7 ceremony & signing, 2/C weekend, various sporting events and concerts, too. Some of these photo albums provide a good look at what you can expect in the years to come for your Mid.
If you have not done so, please consider becoming a NAPC-SC member. Being a member will help you connect with parents and the larger USNA community. Annual memberships are $75, or the four year membership option is $275. Dues support our Welcome Aboard Luncheon, Plebe/detailer care packages, Birthday Club, Mid monthly benefits surprises, Dark Ages care packages, postage, and lastly a very NICE graduation/commissioning gift for mids whose parents are four-year members.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to any member of the team if you have a question, issue, or idea to share. We have ALL been there, understand how important support is, and will provide you the information or direct you to the best source, if we cannot answer your questions. We're just a text, call, email or message away!
Our website is continually being updated with current information from USNA and also local Alumni Chapters (see Navy/AF game plan for Charleston folks!), so wander around here a bit. With football season in full swing, we hope you get to Annapolis for a game this season--or at least cheer for them on the TV screen. As always...
Go Navy! ~
